Return to "The Faces of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir"

Mac Christensen

Choir President

Ask Choir President Mac Christensen what he wants for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and he'll tell you simply: "I want every single person in the world to hear the Choir. The music the Choir makes will bring spirituality and goodness to the whole world - we can bring people together through song."

Stepping into the role of Mormon Tabernacle Choir president after founding and running a clothing business for 43 years may seem an unlikely transition. But for Mac Christensen, it was an easy fit. As president, he makes the Choir run as smoothly as he did his business. A skilled negotiator and a numbers man, President Christensen manages the operations, staff and marketing of the Choir. He also oversees the administrative components of the Choir, making sure that programs stay within budget and that the myriad of details associated with running the Choir and Orchestra are handled well.

Previously, President Christensen served as the director at the Washington D.C. Temple Visitors' Center for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There, he welcomed guests and explained the Church and its programs to thousands of visitors each year. He feels that he is still familiarizing the public with the Church now through his work with the Choir. He comments, "I would like more people to know more about the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, because the more they know about the Choir the more they will know about the Church."

Christensen's plan is to open doors for people throughout the world to hear and see the Choir sing. "It shouldn't be this country's choir, it should be the world's choir," he says. "The music is so good and so uplifting. Everyone should get to experience the sight, sound and spirit of the Choir."

President Christensen and his wife, Joan, have 8 children, 37 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
